SWOT Analysis - Initial Experience

As of writing this post, I have some experience with working with game dev engines, which I believe gives me a slight advantage over my peers, however, I have only ever worked with Defold, which is primarily a 2D game engine. As such, some skills may not translate to 3D work in Unreal, especially with VR.

Having studied Computer Science at A-Level, I have a good understanding of many concepts surrounding game logic, and some basic programming experience, which will make basic systems much easier for me to implement. However, I don't know many programming languages. Computer Science has also taught me about programming paradigms and development strategies, which can help me to manage my time more effectively.

Spending time using Source Filmmaker as a hobby has helped with understanding lighting, as well as moving and posing 3D models. Whilst I may not be using Unreal to make static scenes in this case, I feel like this gives me a basic idea of how the models I intend to create will interact with the environment and the player, and a basic understanding of the lighting parameters will help me in future.

My Computer Science A-level project taught me a lot about the development process behind any piece of software, and also made me confront my shortcomings during the development process, like setting unrealistic expectations of what I can reasonably achieve with the time I am given to complete a project,  being uncertain of how best to spend my time, and focusing on one aspect of the project despite not having the experience to implement a solution. Knowing what I've learnt from that, I have become more aware of how to overcome these.

I hope to focus on improving my understanding of Unreal and other game engines, my 3D modelling competency, and my animation skill, which is particularly important for the AR aspect of this assessment.
